New Cucumber Herbal Conditioning Cleanser at Kiehl’s, and DIY Cucumber Inspired Mask

Happy Monday All!

I’m excited to say that we FINALLY have the Cucumber Herbal Conditioning Cleanser at Kiehl’s stores in Canada (not online, yet), which is great considering it’s popularity elsewhere in the world! Social media has been living for it recently.

Obviously I picked one up the moment it hit the shelves and I’m already obsessed. It’s thick consistency and light, but fresh smell are a great start to it’s light lather and great cleansing properties; it even takes off light makeup! It leaves the skin feeling moisturized and hydrated which makes it great for a dry skin type, and all skins, even those with acne.

You can pick one up at your local Kiehl’s store, for now!

I was feeling inspired by the launch of the cleanser and so threw together a DIY Cucumber Mask. It was hydrating and soothing, also super cooling. If you’re thinking you might want to give it a shot, see the instructions below!

What you need:

Instructions:

  1. Peel and puree the cucumber,
  2. Mix the other two ingredients with the puree,
  3. Cover and refrigerate for 30 min,
  4. Wash skin using Kiehl’s Cucumber Herbal Conditioning Cleanser and then dry,
  5. Apply mask to skin and leave on for 10 minutes,
  6. Wash off and finish with prefered skincare routine.

Doesn’t your skin feel super fresh?

I’m vowed to myself that I’m going to start trying more DIY masks and I’ll definitely be sharing those experiences along the way.

I’d also love to know your thoughts on this DIY mask and also the new Kiehl’s Cucumber Herbal Conditioning Cleanser (once you get your hands on it). As always, leave those thoughts below or shoot me an email.

Stay Fresh,

Rescued on a Sunday / Skincare Routine

Happy Sunday kiddo’s, it’s an absolutely gorgeous day in Toronto and that deserves a day of pampering as well as some R&R.

Last week was a slightly hectic one, but when is it not, I mean really; however I made it through with my skin still intact. Although, as I got to the end of the week I began seeing some of the impact from the added stress, and I absolutely DESPISE stressed skin, so here’s what we’re going to do to aleviate that issue…

Rescued on a Sunday Routine,                     For Normal/Oily Skin with Textural Issues and Slight Pigmentation

  1. 1 Pump ~ Kiehl’s Facial Fuel Energizing Face Wash to kickstart the skin into its woken state, reduce puffiness and invigorate,
  2. 10 Minutes ~ L’Oréal Pure-Clay Red Algae Mask for a gentle exfoliation, energized radiance and youthful glow,
  3. 5 Minutes ~ Kiehl’s Calendula & Aloe Soothing Hydration Mask to refresh the skin with a burst of hydration and calm any infmaled, red or irritated areas,
  4. Kiehl’s Brightness Activating Toner to restore pH and reduce building of melanin,
  5. Kiehl’s Age Defender Eye Contour Cream to reduce dark circles, puffiness and initial signs of aging,
  6. 3 Drops ~ The Ordinary 2% Hyaluronic Acid + B5 to hydrate the skin and restore its’ texture,
  7. 3 Drops ~ The Ordinary 12% Ascorbyl Glucoside to combat melanogenesis,
  8. 3 Drops ~ Kiehl’s Daily Reviving Concentrate to supply anti-oxidants and a healthy, warm glow,
  9. 1 1/2 Pumps ~ Kiehl’s Skin Rescuer to calm and moisturize stressed skin.

Now, didn’t that feel incredible?

These bad boys are my go-to whenever my skin is feeling weak, malnourished and/or stressed. All together, they’re some of my favourite products.

So if you find you’re skin is ever feeling stressed or beginning to wear-down you might want to consider taking a look at a few of these products. And as always, hit me up with any questions or if you want some added guidance.

Keep your skin calm and it shall carry on,

Kiehl’s Cilantro & Orange Pollutant Defence Masque || Week 2 || Day 6

Overnight masks are some of my favourite to use, for the reason that they not only simplify a pm routine into fewer steps, but they also take heavy duty action on the skin. Previously I spoke about the Kiehl’s Ulltra Facial Overnight Hydrating Masque as well as the Biotherm Life Plankton Mask. Both of these masks are overnight hydrating masks and work to replenish the skin in that nature.

Hydrating masks aren’t the only kind of overnight products though.

Behold…

Kiehl’s Cilantro & Orange Pollutant Defence Masque

From the retailers:

  • Helps defend and replenish with hydration, to reduce the visible signs of pollution such as dull, unhealthy looking skin,
  • Formulated with Cilantro and Orange Extracts, our masque protects skin against environmental aggressors while helping to defend pollutants from adhering to skin,
  • With continued use skin looks renewed, radiant and protected.

Evidently this overnight mask is much different from the two that I’ve gone ahead and previously mentioned. That being said, having diversity among skincare products that we interchange between is never a bad thing.

Not only is the mask itself different, but its application is slightly unique as well; it gets layered within a pm routine opposed to acting as a standalone treatment.

Essentially the process begins with cleansing and toning as per usual, and then always make sure to follow with your eye cream. Once that’s absorbed the mask gets applied by first having a small amount warmed up between the fingers and then massaged onto then face evenly. Wait for it to dry, finish with serum, oil and moisturizer.

Yes it’s a lengthy process, but heck does it ever get the job done.

I love how dewy and purified my skin looks the next day. It literally feels like a fresh awakening when you look in the mirror and get caught up in the warmth of your complexion, not even kidding.

I definitely recommend this mask for ALL SKIN TYPES, especially those who suffer from minor breakouts and impurities on the face. I ESPECIALLY recommend it if you’re like me and you live in a city or heavily polluted area where the defence is almost mandatory.

Well that’s a wrap for Day 6 of The 7 Day Mask Challenge Week Two with the Kiehl’s Cilantro & Orange Pollutant Defence Masque. Tomorrow I’ll be back with my final mask post of the two weeks, and then I’ll be back with one final recap of my overall comparison between a week of Sheet Masks vs. a week of Professional Masks.

Keep the defence,

Kiehl’s Rare Earth Deep Pore Cleansing Masque + Kiehl’s Calendula & Aloe Soothing Hydration Mask || Week 2 || Day 5

I’m a little late with this post, and for that I am terribly sorry!

Now let’s not waste any time and get right into Day 5 of The 7 Day Mask Challenge. I preach it regularly and I have throughout this challenge already, I LOVE Multi-Masking. Being able to use multiple masks in one session and benefit from the results of multiple active ingredients simultaneously is a great way to maximize on time, and usage. For Day 3 I chose to speak about my favourite combo and now we’ll talk a little more about my second go-to.

Deep pore cleansing is extremely important at keeping our pores minimized and sebum levels low, limiting the possibility of a breakout. And who likes breakouts?

However sometimes we may find that a deep pore cleansing mask may be slightly drying, but that doesn’t mean that all are. Regardless it certainly doesn’t hurt to re-hydrate and re-fresh the skin afterwards, which is why I use a combo of…

Kiehl’s Rare Earth Deep Pore Cleansing Masque

Here’s what the retailers have to say:

  • Formulated with Amazonian White Clay to gently draw out oil, dirt and toxins from clogged pores,
  • The addition of Oatmeal and Aloe Vera helps to soothe.

Kiehl’s Calendula & Aloe Soothing Hydration Masque

From the manafacturers:

  • Lightweight gel mask formulated with hand-picked Calendula Flower Petals and Aloe Vera bursts into a refreshing surge of cooling hydration,
  • Upon application, dry skin is instantly hydrated and smoothed,
  • Whith continued use skin is revitalized for a healthy looking complexion.

If you’ve been following along with some of my mask posts you should definitely know how much I LOVE my Calendula & Aloe Soothing Hydration Masque. I’ve mentioned how great of an addition it is to any Multi-Masking combo and even on its own as a refreshing treatment. It literally softens, hydrates and smoothes the skin with an insanely addictive Sweet Lemon smell.

Now despite my love for the above, let’s talk a little of the Rare Earth Deep Pore Cleansing Masque now instead.

I said earlier that some deep pore cleansing masques dry-out the skin and that is one thing I do not find I experience when using the Kiehl’s mask. I love how clean and purified my skin looks post-usage, and how nicely the rest of my routine absorbs into my skin once I’ve washed it off. Despite it not being drying I would NOT suggest a deep pore cleansing mask like this one to someone who suffers from dry skin.

However if you are on the oiler side and prone to larger pores and/or blemishes, the Kiehl’s Rare Earth Deep Pore Cleansing Masque is certainly a sure-winner for your cause.

Unlike my week with Sheet Masks, as I begin to near the end of my week with Professional Masks I’ve noticed no negative changes in my skin but only positive ones. With Sheet Masks I had noticed a few random blemishes that had left me feeling uncomfortable and it was 100% a cause of overnourishment. So far these results reiterate Professional Masks being more appropriate for a normal-oily skin type…

… and I’m okay with that.

Tomorrow I’ll be back with another one of my favourite overnight masks, until then…

Stay Cleansed,

pG.

Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Overnight Hydrating Mask || Week 2 || Day 4

So you may have clued in to this already, but its no secret that I’m a die-hard Kiehl’s fan. Not only do I love the range of masks and how they can be used together, but I love the way the products feel and react with my skin, as well as how results oriented the products are to begin with.

That being said, I do own all Kiehl’s masks at home and use them daily, if not twice daily.

Hydrating our skin is something that is extremely important and often it gets overlooked when people mix Moisture and Hydration as two of the same. To be clear, Moisture is oil and Hydration is water, make sense? And the skin needs an even balance, 50% give or take, of both in order to maintain a healthy function. Now even if you are an oiler skin type, there are definitely skin care products out there designed to hydrate the skin and restore a balance, hopefully bringing oil levels down to a par.

On the other hand if you do have dry skin and it feels tight as well as irritable, you may want to get as many hydrating products you can into your routine to prevent early signs of aging. And who wants to age?

That being said one great way to hydrate the skin is with the Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Overnight Hydrating Mask, a HUGE personal fave.

Side note, I keep all my gel masks/products in the fridge for instant cooling and soothing.

So without further prolonging…

Kiehl’s Overnight Hydrating Mask

and what the retailers have to say:

  • Helps to instantly boost skins ability to absorb and hold moisture for long-lasting hydration,
  • Glacial Proteins and Desert Plant leaves skin smoother and softer, refreshed and supple by morning,
  • Amplifies the hydration provided by a daily moisturizer,
  • Silicone, Paraben, Fragrance & Colorant Free.

When using this mask you’re going to want to cleanse as per usual, then apply your toner and follow with eye cream; before applying the mask as the final step of your evening routine. This way the mask doesn’t get shoved into the eye area, and so that the skin is properly prepared overall.

Sometimes I exfoliate before applying a hydrating mask to allow for better penetration by the active ingredients, thus creating even greater results. When using this mask it also isn’t necessary to moisturize as this does the job on its own quite well.

After sleeping with the mask on I’ll usually begin the next day with an exfoliation, like I mentioned in my 7 Day Mask Challenge Day 2 post; that way any dirt, debris or residue from the masking is removed effectively as well. I hate clogged pores!

Essentially the results the next day are:

  • Radiant (less dull, tired) skin,
  • Smooth and soft skin.

Anything hydrating will always awaken, smooth and soften which is why hydrating products are generally my favourites. Even in the summer, nothing beats an overnight hydrating pack; especially the Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Overnight Hydrating Mask.

If you’re looking for a way to freshen up the skins’ appearance, revitalize it and/or cure textural differences this is definitely the mask for you.

Keep Hydrated,

pG.

Kiehl’s Turmeric & Cranberry Energizing Radiance Mask w/ Calendula and Aloe Soothing Hydration Mask || Week 2 || Day 3

When it comes to multi-masking I tend to get a little mask crazy sometimes and use so many at once, but ideally I try and restrict my usage to two masks at once. Which sometimes becomes three.

Much like multi-tasking, multi-masking allows us to gain from the benefits of multiple masks at once, opposed to waiting 24 hours or so in between processes. This makes masking extremely fun and sometimes complex for skincare junkies like ourselves.

One of my favourite multi-masking combos is the radiance, smoothing and hydration inducing combination provided by both the Kiehl’s Turmeric & Cranberry Energizing Radiance Mask and the Kiehl’s Calendula & Aloe Soothing Hydration Mask, when used together. I try to do this combination at least once a week and often do it in the morning for a fresh and radiant look throughout the day. It is also a GREAT combo to do before any big makeup application as well, to smooth out the texture of the skin and hydrated it before applying a film of product over the face.

Moving forward, let’s learn a little more about the masks…

Kiehl’s Turmeric & Cranberry Energizing Radiance Mask

Here’s what the retailers have to say:

  • “Instant Facial” mask brightens and energizes the look of dull, fatigued skin to restore a healthy, rosy appearance,
  • Formulated with Cranberry Seeds and Turmeric, this invigorating mask helps soften skin and gently exfoliates it for smoother, brighter and illuminated looking skin.

Kiehl’s Calendula & Aloe Soothing Hydration Mask

From the manufacturers:

  • Lightweight gel mask formulated with hand-picked Calendula Flower Petals and Aloe Vera bursts into a refreshing surge of cooling hydration,
  • Upon application, dry skin is instantly hydrated and smoothed,
  • Whith continued use skin is revitalized for a healthy looking complexion.

… so you can see why these two make a fantastic pairing.

I always begin by cleansing my makeup off of my skin using a cleansing oil and then proceed with and second cleanse, before applying my toner pre-masks; and then we’re off…

Using a mask brush I apply a thin layer of the Turmeric & Cranberry Energizing Radiance Mask all over my face while being sure to avoid the eye area. Once that is done I allow it to dry for about 10 minutes before wetting my hands and beginning to massage the product on my face; this way the Cranberry Seeds within the mask are able to exfoliate as designed to. Then, wash the remainder of the mask off.

Right after I’ve pat dry my skin I take my mask brush and my Calendula & Aloe Soothing Hydration Mask (which I keep in the fridge by the way) and apply a thin, even layer all over the face while being sure to avoid the eye area. After about 5 minutes I wash it off, and then proceed with my nightly routine.

The results?

  • Healthy/ fresh glow,
  • Greater radiance,
  • Soft and smooth skin,
  • Hydrated skin.

These are benefits that ANYONE can enjoy, regardless of skin type. Although I would be weary if I were a more sensitive skin type when using the Turmeric & Cranberry Energizing Radiance Mask. The reason I say this is because Turmeric is a powerful ingredient and could create a small discomfort if your skin is already leaning towards the more sensitive side.

Essentially these are two of my favourite masks because of the results they produce, especially when used together. This is why I chose the multi-masking combo of the Kiehl’s Turmeric & Cranberry Energizing Radiance Mask and the Kiehl’s Calendula & Aloe Soothing Hydration Mask as my Day 3 choices for The 7 Day Mask Challenges.

If you’re in the market for a bright complexion, softer skin and even textures you now know where to look.

Stay Bright,

pG.

Week Two || Professional Masks

One of the questions I often face from many people is,

What’s the difference between a Sheet Mask and Wash-Off/Professional Masks?

… so I decided to do a little project and point out some of those differences.

Two weeks ago I did 7 days straight of Sheet Masks and starting tonight I’ll be doing the same with different Professional Masks.

The key difference between a Professional Mask and a Sheet Mask is that Professional ones are more targeted treatments, and can offer deeper cleanses while doing so. In essence, someone with a more complex/oily skin type may want to use Professional Masks over Sheet Masks, in order to help address the specific needs and concerns at hand.

… and I love my Professional Masks.

Here’s my schedule for my 7 Day Mask Challenge, Week Two, Professional Masks:

  • May 19th: L’Oréal Pure Clay Pore Refining Mask,
  • May 20th: Brothers Life Plankton Mask,
  • May 21st: Kiehl’s Turmeric & Cranberry Energizing Radiance Mask + Kiehl’s Calendula and Aloe Soothing Hydration Mask,
  • May 22nd: Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Overnight Hydrating Mask,
  • May 23rd: Kiehl’s Rare Earth Deep Pore Cleansing Mask + Kiehl’s Calendula and Aloe Soothing Hydration Mask,
  • May 24th: Kiehl’s Cilantro and Orange Pollutant Defendant Mask,
  • May 25th: L’Oréal Pure Clay Brightening Mask.

Intricate, isn’t it?

Much like with The 7 Day Mask Challenge, Week One, I’ll be posting daily about my experience with each mask and what I enjoyed about it.

So check back tomorrow for Day 1’s post, and keep in mind you may be encouraged to try a new mask or two once we get started… and I wouldn’t blame you.

TGIF,

pG.

Refine and Relaod || Taking Care on Easter Weekend

Chocolate, liquor and the gathering of family makes for a great Holiday Weekend at any given point of the year. In fact most of us look forward to getting together with our beloved friends and family members to kick-back and indulge in some of lifes’ treats. With that being said our bodies can be reactive to some of the things that we end up injesting, whether that be visibles signs of dehydration from the excessive drinking or bloating from all the sweets ‘n’ treats.

How unflattering… can we all agree?

As we nod our heads in agreement I want to point out that I too indulge on Holiday Weekends, especially at Easter, and while doing so make sure to follow-up with the appropriate post-party routine. This ensures that my skin stays top-notch and yours can too, with the proper tools and time needed.

Today we’re going to focus on how to Refine and Relaod the face; through deep exfoliation and a boost of hydration.

Drinking alcohol is a known cause of dehydration that effects not only the face but the entire body as well. I’ve mentioned before in a video that Rosacea is sometimes also an outcome of the overconsumption of alcohol, although not all the time as there are other causes too. Signs of dehydrated skin include dull looking skin, rougher textures and also the appearance of superficial/fine lines (don’t be fooled, they aren’t wrinkles… yet).

Consuming large amounts of sweets ‘n’ treats that are high in sugar is not only an attack on our body’s healthy, but also the quality of our skin. When we injest highly-glycemic foods we are creating a surge in our insulin levels which creates inflammation in the skin. This inflammation produces enzymes that break down Collagen and Elastin, responsible for maintaining our skins’ suppleness and firmness. What happens next is the appearance of wrinkles as well as saggy-looking skin; and then it all goes down hill from there. Or so they say.

I don’t mean to scare you into corner and I’m not here to convince you to drop the goodies for good. Rather let’s take a look at a simple process that we can use to help Refine and Reload the skin after a weekend of the good stuff.

I would suggest the following process during the middle of our long weekend festivities or at the end, and here’s what we’re going to need:

  1. Cleanser,
  2. Toner,
  3. Super-refined exfoliator,
  4. Hydrating masque (I suggest an overnight masque),
  5. Masque brush (opptional).

I prefer to use the following products when executing the Refine and Reload process:

Here’s what we’re going to do now that we’re prepared (try to execute the process 30-60 minutes before bed for ample drying time):

  1. Cleanse the skin thoroughly,
  2. Exfoliate with your preferred exfoliator (and be sure to apply the correct amount of pressure for a realistic duration of time, or as directed by the manafacturer or the product),
  3. Tone your skin before applying the masque,
  4. With your Masque Applicator apppy a generous amount of the Hydrating Masque that you have chosen to use.
  5. Allow the masque to dry and dab off the excess.

Now take three deep breaths and feel the appreciation for yourself flow through you.

If using a sleeping masque then it us definitely in our best interest to sleep with it on ALL NIGHT and go about your usual AM routine like you normally would, the following morning. The results after Refining and Reloading should be smoother, softer, radiant and plump skin that has successfully combatted the effects of an indulgent weekend.

Give yourself a pat on the back, good work has been done here today.

This process can be used time and time again to defend against the elements that are either a result of over-indulging, or even natural causes. It is one of my go-to processes that I commit to at least once a week regularly, if not twice.

Keep in mind that using products that contain Sodium Hyaluronate or Hyaluronic Acid, such as the Ultra Facial Overnight Hydrating Mask, will flood the skin with the hydration when most appropriate. This is truly another great slowing mechanism to assist in the slowing of the process of aging, in my opinion anyways.

Let me know what you think of the Refine and Reload process, and how it has helped change YOUR SKIN for the bettet.

Keep Hydrated,

pG.

NYC with Kiehl’s || The Highlights

Last week I took off to New York City with the Kiehl’s Since 1851 family alongside 70 other Kiehl’s Customer Representatives from around the world. Some of these countries include: Canada, China, Korea, USA, England, Scotland, Germany, Croatia, Czech Republic, Italy, Turkey, Sweden, Mexico, Russia and Maylaysia, to name a few.

Together we celebrated the 2017 Kiehl’s Legacy Awards where each KCR selected to attend demonstrated outstanding passion, commitment and sheer dedication to the brand and its’ philanthropies. You can imagine how excited I was to be chosen for such a trip, 5 days in NYC with some of the most passionate Beauty Buff’s from Kiehl’s stores around the world; a once in a lifetime opportunity I dreamed of since starting with Kiehl’s last February.

On Monday, April 3rd I flew out of Toronto Pearson International airport into La Guardia, NYC. Over the 5 day span there were many memories created and experiences produced, right up until my flight out on Friday, April 7th. The trip was full of laughter, inspiration and connection which means I have a ton to talk about. However to keep it interesting I want to reminisce on some of the moments that really took this trip to a new level, experiences that aren’t too often easy to come-by elsewhere.

Like I said, this was definitely a once-in-a-lifetime opporunity and here’s why it will live on in my heart forever…

MONDAY, APRIL 3RD:

Getting in to New York City via flight was as smooth as it could have ever been, we got to our hotel pretty quickly by our chaffeur which left us enough time to explore the city.

Our first stop was the Kiehl’s Original Flagship store located at 13th and 3rd, Pear Tree Corner in New York City. Now could you expect anything esle from three Kiehl’s employees on their Legacy Award Trip in the home-city of their favourite brand? Absolutely not. We explored the store and all its’ history while mingling with the always enthused and charismatic staff on-hand.

The store itself is full of history, like the motorcycles driven and collected by Aaron Morse or the old fire doors used to keep back flames and explosions while products were being formulate in the stores’ original back-end laboratory. You can feel the energy when you’re browsing the products between both the newer and older sides of the Flagship, especially when seeing timeless aspects that are shared across the Kiehl’s family worlwide; such as the wall of customer baby photos and the numerous Mr. Bones scattered throughout the space.

In preparation for the Private Shopping Experience being hosted by our Global team on the Tuesday evening I scoped the store for my purchases, which ended up being:

  • The Clearly Corrective Brightening and Smoothing Treatment,
  • The Butterstick Lip Treatments with SPF,
  • The Original Musk Roll-On Scent.

Basically products I can’t get my hands on in Canada just yet, of course. Now once we left the Flagship we actually went shopping in Times Square and I was personally gunning for the Sephora I fell in love with during my last visit to NYC.

It was my every intention to scope-out and purchase it Costmetics while on my trip and that’s exactly what I did. I had heard such great things about the CC Cream with SPF 50 and the Bye Bye Pores finishing Powder so that’s what I ended up purchasing, and I love them so far.

Being quite tired and slated for an early start on the morning of Tuesday, April 4th, we got a quick bite after our shopping trip and hit the hay for the night in preparation for a surely exciting day to follow.

TUESDAY, APRIL 4TH:

The day started at 6:30 am with an early meditation followed with an 8:30 am car pick-up outside The Dream Hotel at 16th and 9th. I was headed to a very exciting professional photoshoot for a 2018 Kiehl’s campaign at Pier59 Studios. Seriously, a dream come true.

It was there that I got my hair and makeup done by a cast of fabulous men and women out of Brooklyn. We shared laughs and got to know eachother while they did me up WELL. Now that wasn’t the most exciting part of course because if you enjoy being in front of the camera as I do, what follows next is a thrill.

As a Kiehl’s employee it’s always fun to see other KCR’s from around the world in photos and vidoes featured by Global Education, so when it comes your time the excitement literally pulses through you. I was paired up to do two photoshoots, a video recording and some additional stills as well that will eventually be used for marketing materials throughout the brand. You bet that I brought the energy necessary and took full advantage of my moment of pride while at Pier59 Studios; embracing the other KCR’s from around the world on set with me, as well as those working with our Global team.

Once we had wrapped up our portion of the day there two of us went exploring Times Square and we made some fun purchases at a Uniqlo pop-up that was featuring Limited Edition wear as per the Museum of Modern Art. I love my Limited Editions, who doesn’t? While on our excursion we also stumbled upon another Kiehl’s at 9th and 47th that also contained a Men’s Grooming Studio. Now it had been on my bucket list during my last visit in New York City to find this place and check it out, but it never happened so I was glad that fate brought us together this time.

It was there that we spent a brief half hour with the Store Manager, Tyler, whom demonstrated to us a new piece of technology being tested at his store. It was somewhat of a Skin Graphing/ Analytics device that provides a more in depth consultatiom for the customer. I was astonished at the device and how it worked! We explored the store a little more before leaving and then headed up 9th towards our hotel, The Dream.

We were scheduled to meet the rest of those meeting us from around the world at the Flagship store for 7 pm. It was then that the Private Shopping Experience was held and the welcoming ceremonies began. We had Cammie Canella, our Global VP of Customer Service and Education, begin the Legacy Awards Trip with a welcoming speech and introduction to our teams. I was on #TeamLuxuryBlue paired with the rest of Canada, the UK, Czech Republic and Croatia.

Once we had made our purchases we all split for food and to bed in preparation for a 7 am meet-up at the Flagship store on Wednesday, April 5th; where we would then venture out as two tour-busses for the day.

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 5TH:

At 7 am we were up and at the corner of 13th and 3rd yet again but this time boarding the two tour-busses that we would spend until 6 pm on, exploring the day.

Our first stop was the L’Oréal USA Piscataway Production Facility where Kiehl’s products are manafactured. It is an honour to get a tour of such a faciltity, especially as a a Kiehl’s employee and product lover, but also to learn about the many ways in which the production quarters is handled to minimize the impact it has on the environment. Which is also a Kiehl’s philanthropy, commitment to sustainability.

We had each section of the facility explained to us in-depth by its’ own employees and mamagement staff, which left me with a feeling of joy and comfort. To know that the employees operating the facility are just as passionate about product development as we are about the results the products produce makes me happy to work for such a genuine and unique entity, because it’s not easy to come by. It also makes it easier for me to now sell the products to my customers with even more knowledge about each positive story behind the products’ formulation AND production. I had never felt more connected than I did at the Piscataway Production Facility, and still do.

Following the tours we hopped back on the tour busses and were treated to an excusrion to the Statue of Liberty.

The Statue of Liberty is another attraction I had yet to visit on my previous trip to NYC so I was overjoyed when we were told that this is where we would be going. With blue skies and 18 degrees celcius as our temperature I was certain that it would be the perfect day to explore Lady Liberty herself.

After a short ferry ride, which produced an incomparable view of the Manhattan Skyline, we arrived at Liberty Island where we had the opportunity to jump inside the monument and crawl up its’ many stairs to the pedastel outlook. With a heavy climb we finally reached the outlook portion and the views were just stunning. A walk around the podium gave us a clear view of the Manhattan Skyline and some of the aircraft also hovering in the area, including the military helecopters circling; which undeniably added to the entire experience.

We were tired by the time we had gotten down from the statue and so grabbed a quick nibble at the café on the island before heading back in to New Jersey where our busses would meet us to take us back into the city. The plan for the rest of the day was to enjoy our evening of free time and grab a delicious NYC meal, which we did.

At about 8 pm a few of us ventured to Crispo Restaurant, at 8th and 14th. I had the Ravioli which I must say blew my mind. It was cooked to perfection and had obviously been made fresh not long before we arrived. I could not help but think how similar it tasted to the Ravioli that my Nonna used to make, it brought back all sorts of feelings and emotions. We enjoyed our dinner and some laughter over a glass of wine or two before heading out to our next stop, The Empire State Building.

Yes, but yet another attraction I had yet to visit during my last visit in NYC. Mainly because it was so busy last time that we could not bare to wait, and this time that wait was next to nothing so we made our way up the building at 11 pm.

The views were breathtaking and the photos say it all. Overlooking the cloud-cast skies over NYC with the streets lighting up the fog hovering over the city, and then of course a huge glowing square at the center of it all; Times Square. With about 15 minutes of view-time the fog then came over and covered our view of the entire city leaving us with no choice but to head back down to solid ground. Regardless we were satisfied with our decision to be explorative and it is an experience I won’t ever forget.

Once back down the elevator we hopped into a cab and back to The Dream for another good nights’ sleep before the Kiehl’s Insider Workshop the following morning.

THURSDAY, APRIL 6TH:

Up and out at 8 am for our 8:30 am start at the Manhattan Penthouse at 80 5th Avenue for the Kiehl’s Insider Workshop, no hastle.

The day was to be kept more of a private session as we discussed new ideas for potential product development and services that we can offer to our customers. But, also because of the sneak peek at new product launches later this year AND next, as well as due to the new and exciting partnership that Kiehl’s will be launching later this year on a global scale.

There was also an opportunity for a Social Media photo opp where we were invited to pose and shoot with our favourite Kiehl’s products, meaning you may or may not see my face on the Kiehl’s platforms sometime over the next while. Not only myself, but all of the other awesome KCR’s in attendance too. Following the photo opp there was also a video booth where we were to stand in front of a camera while applying one of the new launches on to our hands and commenting on certain aspects we enjoyed about it. To boot, I got asked to do this video a second time because they enjoyed the first so much that they wanted it to be perfected, how awesome is that!?

Once we had our lunch and wrapped up the workshop we were given 4 hours of free-time to do as we pleased, as well as to prepare for the Gala Dinner later in the evening; also being held at the Manhattan Penthouse.

Myself and two others actually spent the manjority of our free-time at the Sephora in the Meat Packing District, at 9th and 14th. To be honest we went in for one thing and became so engaged with one of the employees that we lost track of 2 hours. Paulette, or @mintmacaron88 on Instagram, was by far the most accomodating and helpful Sephora employee that I had ever interacted with. She listened to our every request and displayed great empathy as well as service, so it should not surprise you that between 3 of us we spent over $500 USD during that one visit on cosmetics alone. Did we feel bad about it? Heck no. We were thrilled!

Thank you Paulette for your incredible compassion and skill!

We used the last bit of time we had left to prepare ourselves for the Gala and headed back over to 80 5th Avenue for an evening od dinner, drinks and dancing.

We began with a light Goat Cheese Salad followed by a delicious Fillet Mingon, how classy! The rich Molten Chocolate Lava Cake was a perfect finish to a great meal, and then we danced the night away together around the Manhattan Skyline from our sky-high Penthouse in the centre of it all. It was dreamy.

Now what followed next was a trip to PHD, the nightclub on top of The Dream Hotel, with 20-25 of the other KCR’s also on the trip. We casually drank, danced and made memories on the dancefloor also overlooking the Skyline, again. We all knew how to have fun together and make the best of our short time in eachothers presence, so that is exactly what we did.

I won’t comment on what time we went to bed in order to withhold judgement, but we we got our packing done and made it to bed in once piece anyways, for another early morning rising and start at the Manhattan Penthouse again; for what would be our last portion of the 2017 KCR Legacy Awards Trip in NYC.

The awards ceremony itself.

FRIDAY, APRIL 7TH:

This was our final gathering of the 2017 Legacy Awards Trip where we were joined by not only our respected Global team, but also the General Manager of Kiehl’s, Cheryl Vitali.

It is certainly an ambiton of every Kiehl’s employee to meet both Cammie Canella and Cheryl Vitali and so having both in a photo at once while receiving my Legacy Award was an incredible honour. Cammie led each individuals’ award ceremony with a heart-warming speech about why each of us was chosen as an award winner and it ended with tears of joy and happiness in almost all cases.

For me, having Cheryl Vitali say to myself, “What an impressive year you’ve had,” as we hugged and exchanged hand shakes was incredibly inspiring and touching. It was enough to ensure that my second year with Kiehl’s would be just as impressive, if not moreso.

We wrapped up the ceremonies with a bite and opportunities to take photos as we said our final goodbyes. It was hard and I cried profusely as I said ‘See You Later’ to the people I had fallen head over heels for over the last 5 days. Regardless I knew it was time to go home and get cranking on producing new experiences and learning opporunities for my customers with all the knowledge I just had instilled upon me.

With haste we made it to La Guardia airport for our 6:30 pm flight back but ended up back in Toronto 3 and a half hours later than expected because of ridiculous airport delays and flight cancellations. We almost didn’t think we were going to make it home but boy am I ever happy that we did.

My boyfriend was waiting for me at the arrivals of Pearson International Airport with roses and a smile on his face, obviously after missing me for a few days. I must say I missed him as well, but when you’re so caught up in what you’re doing sometimes you do tend to forget about your life back home; and no one is ever to blame for that. We spoke a few times during my trip but it was hard to keep tabs on two lives at once, and he’s super understanding of that; thankfully.

We hopped on the Union-Pearson Express to get us back into Toronto’s Downtown Core, where we currently live. This got us back downtown around 1 am, and you bet our bed was right where I went when we got in.

There are moments where I can’t help but want to time-travel back to last week and re-live each experience over, and over again.

To all of the KCR’s and Staff who made this one of the most memorable trips I will ever enjoy, thank you from the bottom of my heart.

And to all of you working hard in your fields, I hope your hard work and commitment is rewarded just as graciously as ours is at a Kiehl’s.

Remembering Fondly,

pG.

The Art of Layering

Each and every morning, as well as night, when I open my cabinet doors in the bathroom I am faced with an array of products that I am privileged to own. Then follows the question, where do I begin? As someone who invests a great deal of time into his skin I often need to take a step back and devise some sort of game plan, in order to provide my skin with what it needs at that exact moment. Of course, there are about 13 products that remain consistent in my routine on a daily basis; however let us also take into account the multiple exfoliators and masques that are incorporated as well.

For the sake of simplicity I will stick with my go-to system that I find works for me. Keep in mind that we all bear different skin types than one another, but we also carry varrying concerns.

The basic starter-system often recommended is a cleanser, toner and moisturizer. This sounds absolutely preposterous to those of us who obsess over our skin, does it not? If you are anyting like me your daily routines probably consist of, wait for it: multiple cleansers, toners, eye creams, serums, oils, moisturizers, sunscreen and a primer. Emphasis on the plural. So where do all of these sit in conjuction to one another?

Well let us chat…

Clarisonic with Deep Pore Cleansing & Normal Brushes

Professionals will suggest that layering should begin with the product bearing a thinner consistency and follow through in order to the product with the thickest consistency. I whole heartedly agree with and operate under this structure as well, always after a double cleanse. The key is to structure your routine so that your products and their ingredients compliment one another, and so that they can also function as a unified whole in synergy. The best way to do this is certainly through trial and error which is when samples become our best friend.

Things to look for during this trial period:

  • Redness, sensitivity and/or irritation,
  • Bumps and/or Acne,
  • Excess oil production,
  • Dry and/or flaky skin,
  • Uneven skin tone and/or pigmentation,
  • Dull skin,
  • Rough texture.

Keep in mind that you want to address your concerns, at least the primary and secondary ones, with your routine. Also keep in mind that your samples will probably not produce immediate results; rather they will give you some insight into the feel, smell and look of a product as well as its potential compatability with your skin.

To uncover what your concerns are I suggest a visit to a credible Skincare retailer, or better yet feel free to get in touch with myself for some quick and genuine advice.

Now for my routine, in order of usage:

AM

  1. Kiehl’s Facial Fuel Energizing Facewash with Clarisonic – Normal Brush,
  2. Arcona Toner Tea Bar,
  3. Kiehl’s Brightness Activating Toner ,
  4. Kiehl’s Age Defender Eye Repair (applying an eye cream before a serum will prevent possible irritations),
  5. The Ordinary. Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 (hydrating serums first),
  6. Kiehl’s Daily Reviving Concentrate,
  7. Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream (moisturizers, creams or lotions last),
  8. Kiehl’s Super Fluid UV Defense SPF 50+ (sunscreen is a must as a preventative to aging but also when using any brightening product or one that has a hasrsher interaction),
  9. Hylamide HA Blur – Finisher (to prepare for makeup).

PM

  1. Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Botanical Cleansing Oil (oil removes oil AND makeup),
  2. Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cleanser with Clarisonic – Deep Pore Cleansing Brush,
  3. Kiehl’s Brightness Activating Toner,
  4. Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Eye,
  5. The Ordinary. Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5,
  6. Kiehl’s Hydro-Plumping Re-Texturizing Serum Concentrate (gels after hydrating product),
  7. Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate,
  8. Kiehl’s Pure Vitality Skin Renewing Cream.

Trial and error has guided me here.

I am being too true when I say not everyone has the ability to operate at this caliber; I have a sick obsession with personal care. I do need to stress one more piece of advice before wrapping this up…

Some products work best when given time to absorb between applications.

I speak truths. This is not only a fact but I can guarantee that if you put this theory to the test you may be satisfied with the results. I recently introduced this policy into my own routine and I have nothing but positive things to say in return. Some products like Benzoyl Peroxide for example, which treat concerns like Acne, do require up to 3 hours to sit before another product is applied; this allows the Benzoyl Peroxide to function at its full potential. Not all products require this amount of wait time but most do benefit from at least a 5-minute interval when layering. Again, it never hurts to do some research for the overall benefit of yourself, your skin, and your investment into Skincare products.

The PM Routine

It is my hope that I was able to provide some insight into how you can perfect your process and maximize on your natural beauty. If you have any questions or would like further guidance please do not hesitate to reach out.

I do not bite, promise.
